How To Install Subwoofers & An Amplifier In A Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius comes standard with one of two JBL sound systems. The standard system consists of six speakers and an amplifier. The optional enhanced system includes nine speakers and a CD player. However, neither system includes a genuine subwoofer. Compared to regular cars, the Prius has some installation problems, but these could be fixed.Open the rear compartment for storage. This area is ideal for a powerful subwoofer. The proximity to the battery of the Prius facilitates connecting.

  • Above the spare tire, drill a single 3/4-inch hole in the plastic pan.
  • Remove the red plastic cover from the battery cable and attach a ring terminal to the hot lead of the amplifier and the battery cable. This allows you to connect the power cable to the hot lead of the Prius in order to power the amplifier.
  • Attach the powered subwoofer to the storage compartment using the industrial Velcro provided.
  • Run the line-level audio cable through the Prius's rear seat and along the door frames.
  • Connect the audio cable's wire ends to the terminals for the rear speakers on the Prius system amplifier. The Kenwood device comes with a few feet of cable that can be used to route the wires inside the Prius.
  • Shut the compartment's door.
