The Generation II Toyota Prius was manufactured between 2004 and 2009. This Prius model offered two headlamp options: halogen headlights as standard and HID (High-Intensity Discharge) headlights as an option. Aiming with the standard headlights is rather elementary and straightforward. The technique was stated in the 2004 Prius owner's manual, the year the car debuted. Toyota did not include these instructions in the 2005 Prius manual for reasons only it knows. Place the Toyota Prius on a level surface, facing a flat wall that is 25 feet in front of the car.
- Turn the car off. Put the gear selector in neutral.
- Set the headlights to illuminate the flat wall in front of the car.
- Make the car bounce multiple times. If you cannot do it in the car, you must exit and push on the hood.
- Raise the hood and open it with a prop. Remove the cover from the radiator support. Adjust the targeting screw, which looks like an upside-down bottle cap with a few points around it.
- Turn the adjustment screw in either the clockwise or counterclockwise direction. This adjusts the height of the light beam. The light beam should be horizontal to a few inches below horizontal.
